Journal of Excursions Through Suffolk, 1823-1844

As a Suffolk County historian, David Elisha Davy toured the county, collecting books, manuscripts, deeds, charters, registers, etc. This database is a journal of his travels around Suffolk from 1823 to 1844. Personal and private feelings and thoughts were not excluded by Davy in his journal. As a result, when studying this manuscript researchers not only learn about Davy's knowledge of Suffolk, but they learn about him as well, about his methods of work and travel, his relationships, and his temperament. Davy's journal is the only manuscript of his not found in the British Library collections. Despite the amount of personal information that is contained in this journal, it can still be considered as one of Davy's contributions to the topographical literature of Suffolk.
