 Dictionary of Suffolk Arms

This database is part of the Suffolk Records Society collection and contains a dictionary of Suffolk Arms. Heraldry can be an important key in doing family history. Because coats of arms were passed down through the generations, armory, or heraldry, has much genealogical value. This dictionary is both an Armory and an Ordinary of Suffolk arms. As explained by the author in the introduction, an Armory is an alphabetical index of families, followed by a description of the arms borne. An Ordinary is a collection of arms arranged according to their design and their charges, with the names of the bearers attached. This work is arranged in the form of an Ordinary, but can be used as an Armory when implementing the index. With this collection researchers may discover which family names are associated with particular coats of arms.
