Located in southwestern England, Wiltshire is home to the famous Neolithic monuments at Stonehenge. This collection is an index to more than 260,000 marriages from all 327 Wiltshire parishes, with dates ranging from 1538 to December 1837. The index includes details extracted from parish registers, bishop’s transcripts, marriage bonds, banns, Quaker marriages and other documents. Entries include the following details:

  • name
  • date
  • name of parish

While most of the entries were extracted from traditional parish registers and bishop’s transcripts, there are other marriage-related records included as well.

  • marriages from Quaker records
  • “stray” marriages from other counties, where either party was from Wiltshire
  • marriage license allegations
  • banns books
  • marriage license bonds
  • entries in quarter sessions, churchwarden’s books, and other sources of marriage information
